Bloom where you are planted.
~ Stella Payton
Hi, I'm Kelley Brubaker.
Coach, Teacher, Mentor, Advisor, Founder of Profit Scale Thrive & your biggest cheerleader.
My philosophy is work-life balance because my favorite people in my life call me "Mom".
I used to believe that the grass was greener everywhere other than where I was. It took me years to realize the truth is the grass is greener where you water it.
I learned growing up that working harder was the "right" way which served me well for a very long time. Until it didn't.
I graduated at the top of my high school class while also working part-time and being a student-athlete throughout high school, earned a scholarship to a Division I school for track and field (discus and javelin thrower), and it made me invaluable when I started my career in Big 4 where I was determined to become a partner (and an office managing partner with a big corner office when I really dared to dream).
But when I opened my first business, a now-closed CPA firm in 2005, the harder I worked, the more I struggled.
I was so overwhelmed and overworked that I was ready to throw it all away and go back to work a sucky 8-5 for an unappreciative employer.
I was working all of the time but still stressed about money. Wondering, can I afford to hire someone to help take some of the load off of me?
Feeling guilty when I took time away from work to spend with family and friends or god-forbid take a few hours to enjoy a hobby.
I worked until the day I went into labor and barely took a week off work after giving birth to each of my girls.
I wanted to be in a position where I did not have to choose between my clients and my personal life or my mental and physical health. Run my firm so it allowed me to take time off when I needed to and when I wanted.
Knowing I have money in the bank for strategic growth as well as unexpected things that may arise.
Then, I realized that having a college degree and having passed the CPA exam, neither qualified me to be a business owner.
So, I set out to search for answers on how to improve my firm, but none of my family or friends owned a business. I had nobody to talk to.
That led me to read volumes of business books, buy hundreds of courses, and watch countless hours of webinars when I stumbled upon the book "Profit First" by Mike Michalowicz, which changed my life.
The book is so simple, yet brilliant.
I believe in the book so much that I became a Certified Profit First Professional and now Mike Michalowicz, his books, and programs are a main source of inspiration for me.
So, how is Profit Scale Thrive different?
First, while we have clients in a variety of professional service industries, our niche is law firms. We are in tune, more than most third parties you work with, the state bar rules imposed upon your firm. Things that may work well for other businesses are not always feasible for law firms.
What sets our approach apart is that in addition to teaching clients to profitably manage their cash flow, we also work on the ultimate goal:
Build a team that supports your vision for your firm and implement predictable and efficient systems which allows you as the firm owner to be...REPLACEABLE.
Yes. You read that right - Replaceable.
Truth be told it may be a pipe dream to fully and completely remove yourself from your firm. BUT, it is 100% possible to have an office that will operate without your direct involvement for hours, days, and even weeks at a time.
- getting a flat tire on your way to work
- getting a call from school that your kid is sick and needs to be picked up in the next 15 minutes
- your mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa is unexpectedly nearby your office and wants to meet you for lunch in 20 minutes
If any of these happen to you today, will your office continue to fully function if you leave unexpectedly for the rest of the day?
My mission is to help you be efficient and strategic in your business to achieve permanent profitability which lets you enjoy living your life. Hence my firm's name which is also our mission: Profit Scale Thrive.
I have helped entrepreneurs across the United States to learn to manage their business while reaching and, many times exceeding, their business and personal goals.
What can we achieve together? The sky is the limit!
